Our verification standard
For policy explainers and important public-information updates, GIPAN prioritises official documents and direct institutional publications. Where an official primary source exists, it should be linked from the explainer.
Preferred sources
- Federal and state government publications and gazettes.
- Regulator and agency publications, including INEC, CBN, NBS and other competent institutions.
- National Assembly and other official public records where applicable.
- Direct public briefings, press releases and programme documentation from responsible institutions.
What an explainer should contain
- What changed or was announced.
- Who the source says is affected.
- Important dates or conditions.
- What people may need to know or do.
- A clear link to the official source.
Corrections
If material information is wrong, outdated or misrepresented, GIPAN should correct the explainer and retain enough editorial context to understand what changed. You can flag an issue through the contact page.
